What is the purpose of this resource?
As we have made our way through our third Professional Semester Practicum, we have been able to learn so much and have started to demonstrate our understanding of the Teaching Quality Standards.
With us being 2 months into our internship now, we realized that applying TQS 5 “Applying Foundational Knowledge about First Nations Metis and Inuit”, into our teaching can be challenging if you do not have the necessary resources or information. Especially in a time like today, it is imperative that we as educators begin to integrate FNMI culture into our classroom and make it a regular theme with our students. This realization is what has inspired our idea for our Professional Inquiry Project. |
Who We Are?
We are both currently completing our Professional Semester Threes through the University of Lethbridge. Mr. Gyles is in Calgary teaching grade 2 at St. Philips Elementary and enjoys every second with his young students. Mr. Bijl on the other hand has stayed in the Lethbridge area and is teaching at Kate Andrews High School where he instructs Physical Education 9, 10, and 11. Since we both have experience in different ages groups, we are excited to create a resource that will be applicable for any teacher, regardless of the age of your students, to use.
